Maleficent

Go watch my new film at the cinema, beastie!

Listen well, all of you! I went to see Maleficent on Friday night, and you know what?

I enjoyed it! Here are some of my thoughts about it. I'm not going to spoil too much of the movie, so I'm going to stick to the scenes that were already featured in the promotional trailers!

First, let's talk about the castle in the opening shot. Just like any other Disney movie we see that iconic magical cactle. Only this time that really is the castle belonging to the characters of the movie! I tip my hat to you, Mr. Director, for that one!

Second, if Angelina Jolie was not in the starring role as Maleficent I probably wouldn't gone to the cinema to watch it. She carried this movie and she really went the extra mile to make this character very enjoyable. I can't think anyone else better suited for the live action version of this role!

Third, a critique. I wasn't crazy about the three good fairies, but without giving anything specifics away I realized that had to be due to the Maleficent character receiving better development for the plot.

I would safely to say that the movie took a lot of liberties with the source material and if you can separate whatever feelings you have from the classic 1959 film then you can find a highly enoyable new take on an old favorite!

Other than that I want to gush a bit and say that I like Angelina Jolie as a person. I always see her doing her charity work or speaking at world political events, using her status as a celebrity to bring attention to important news and issues of the day. So she's a cool chick in my book! I personally know a few people who absolutely hate her because she stole Jennifer Aniston's husband... lol but I can look past that!  Oh, not only that, but Angelina and I share the same birthday! She's got that going for her! Hee hee!

  1. I saw it last night and actually didn't really enjoy it. I loved the first part and the last but the huge chunk in the middle was a big waste of time in my opinion. I am a big fan of the original and it seemed like they threw that classic story out the window to make way for this story. They also made maleficent into a hero which i was annoyed with, i was happy to see her become a badass in the beginning but then she goes all soft.

I feel like they were catering for the children of this generation and not the actual fans of the old story. Angelina did as good as she could with the script she was given and i agree with you about the three fairies being a little annoying lol.

Not trying to make anyone upset...just voicing my opinion. I was looking forward to this movie for 2 years because i saw the photos onset when they leaked. I was totally disappointed but I dont think i will see it again.

    1. Well, in the preview we saw that she doesn’t turn into the dragon.... so going in I knew it was going to be different. It would have been nice if both films were parallel... (Like in the play Wicked) but like I said they gave us enough hints that this movie will take liberties.
